The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education and St. Francis Xavier University are going to partner to present a part-time off-campus Bachelor of Education program. The Tri-County part-time Bachelor of Education proposal would offer applicants an Education degree over a three-year period, taking one course at a time, in the local area. Faculty and staff from the StFX Teacher Education Department will work with interested individuals to support them in meeting provincial licensing regulations and becoming qualified teachers in the Nova Scotia public school system.

St. Francis Xavier University’s Faculty of Education offers several programs of study. Our Bachelor of Education program admits students with a prior university degree and trains them to teach in the elementary or secondary school stream. This is a 60-credit hour program and graduates are eligible to be certified to teach in the Nova Scotia public school system.

Students entering the elementary stream should have courses in fundamentals of English, Math, Social Studies and Science, as well as a course in Developmental Psychology. Secondary applicants should have 30 credit hours in a first subject area and 18 credit hours in a second subject taught in the public school system.
