The 2019 Regional Science and Technology Expo was held on Monday, April 15th at NSCC Burridge, Yarmouth. The results are as follows:

Overall winners, from left: 1st place: Ryan Churchill, YCMHS; 2nd place: Natha Paquette, YCMHS; 3rd place: Abby Stanton, DRHS; 4th place: Jessica Dares, LRHS; 5th place: Ciara Goulden, BMHS; 6th place: Grace Garren, LRHS.

1st place winner Ryan Churchill, pictured above with Executive Director of Ignite Labs Doug Jones, won $300, $25 and the Gold medal for placing 1st in the intermediate category, trip to Canada-wide Science Fair in Fredericton, large school plaque, school banner, keeper plaque, $1500 scholarship to Dalhousie University and $2000 scholarship to Acadia University. Ryan also won the Ignite Labs Innovation Award of $100 and a gift bag.  Ryan’s project was entitled:  “Phone 2 Phone” app.

2nd place winner Natha Paquette, pictured above with Doug Jones, won $200, $25 and the silver medal for placing 2nd in the intermediate category, trip to Canada-wide Science Fair in Fredericton and a plaque. He also won the Ted Rogers Innovation Award of $100 and a T-shirt.  Natha’s project was entitled:  “Automated MAC Spoofer”.

3rd place winner Abby Stanton, pictured above with Doug Jones, won $100 and the trip to the Canada-wide Science Fair in Fredericton, $25 and the bronze medal for placing 3rd in the intermediate category.  Abby’s project was entitled:  “Effects of Cassia Oil on Bacteria Found in Lungs of a Cystic Fibrosis Patient”.

Ivy Cushing, student at MGEC, pictured above with Doug Jones, received the Peer Choice Award, which was selected by her peers at the Science Fair, won $50 and the Margo Smith-LeBlanc plaque.  Ivy’s project was entitled:  “La dominance des mains”.
